
She graduated from Jasper High School in 1954, where she played the flute in the school band and served as Drum Major her senior year. A lifelong horsewoman, Sally began riding at a young age and carried that passion throughout her life.
After attending Southern Methodist University for one year, Sally married her high school sweetheart, A.E. Chionsini, in May 1955 in Austin. She later continued he studies at the University of Texas. Following A.E.’s graduation, the family moved to Port Neches, where Sally devoted herself to raising their two daughters, Dusky and Catherine (Cathy). Once her children were in school, she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Business through Lamar University and later earned a teaching degree after relocating to Connecticut.
Sally’s equestrian career spanned decades and continents. While living in England, she discovered dressage, launching a distinguished career in the sport. She represented USDF Region 9 as a Technical Delegate Council member for seven years and served two years as Council Chair. She earned numerous honors, including USDF Region 9 Horse Person of the Year (2008), the Century Award, the FEI Master’s Challenge Award, and the USDF Bronze and Silver Medals. Her horse Castus was named Grand Prix Regional Champion in 2006.
Sally achieved two Century Club Rides, an honor awarded when the combined age of horse and rider equals 100. She retired her USDF “R” Technical Delegate license in 2011 and graduated with distinction from the USDF “L” Program.
