I miss Saturday afternoons at Kay's shop.  She always made everyone feel at home and special.  It was so much fun to shop while we listened to live piano, munched on goodies and swapped our stories from the previous week.  She never complained and was always positive.  I know her life was hard but you would never have known it.  The world lost a beautiful soul the day she died.  There will never be another Kay.  

I just learned of Kay's passing and am heartbroken.  I was one of her very first consignors and throughout the years we became good friends.  I would stop by to visit at least once per week for many years.  She was a dear, sweet person and one of a kind.   
May she rest in eternal peace.  Until we meet again.....


Ms.Kay was a wonderful lady and a very savvy business woman.
She initially hired me to play piano at "On the other Hand", but that soon got changed during the Holidays to having me play Santa Claus as well as the Bunny Rabbit at Easter time. I use to love my Saturdays at ms.Kay's.. 

My memories of Kay are from On The Other Hand in New Orleans on Hampson St and later Oak St in the Riverbend area.  As a customer, consignor, and employee (during school breaks) I can say there was no other consignment shop like it, and it was because of the indomitable spirit and passion of Kay Danne.  People came not only to shop but to laugh and cry and sing and dance and pray. Kay had a way of making everyone feel special.  She was generous with praise and fairness. She was known to let shoppers postdate checks for several months ahead if they very much loved something.  She served food.  She listened to others' trials and tribulations, though she had many of her own.  Most people loved being at the shop and they loved her attention.  Tourists considered it an adventure to experience On The Other Hand.  Some locals considered it a second home.  We all would come and stay for hours and sometimes all day.
There was no place like OTOH and no one like Kay-so special and so life-affirming (with a wicked sense of humor by the way).  None of these words really do her justice. Rest in Peace, dear friend.  Amen. Hallelujah!

Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Bennett and her Dad, Clarence Floyd. Sharon's children are Lisa (Pokluda) and husband Carlos Salazar of Austin, Texas; Scott Pokluda of Meyersville, Texas; and Heath Danne of Georgetown, Texas. She also had a grandchild, Aubrey.
