

Steven Earl Hay, 42 of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 with his loving family at his side. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Steven was born June 12, 1974 in Georgetown, Texas to Earl Wallace and Maggie Hay. Steven had a passion for life and his music. Steven had many accomplishments in music when he was a member of the Georgetown High School Band. In 1990 – 1991 Steven received awards for All District Band, Orchestra TMEA “Area”, Band TMEA, All Region Band, and All Region Orchestra. In 1991-92 Steven received awards for All District Band, All Region Orchestra and All Region Band. In 1991 Steven competed in the World Championship in Dallas and was a finalist. Steven received the TMEA Honor Band Class AAAA 91-92. Steven received numerous awards in Texas UIL solo ensemble and solo. And in 1992 Steven received the Texas All State Band Award. Steven earned a scholarship to play music for the Texas Red Raiders Band in Lubbock, Texas. Steve also played in the Orchestra and Symphonic Bands at Texas Tech. Steven and his Texas Tech band were invited to play in front of an audience in the world renowned Carnegie Hall. Steve also was member of the Dallas Symphony. Steve was very proud to be a member of the Texas Tech University Red Raiders. Steve graduated in the spring of 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts, Music Education (Teacher Certification) from Texas Tech University. Throughout college he worked in the Food and Beverage Industry and saw his new path in life.
After graduation he moved to Arlington, TX and became partners in a catering company named Ritz Catering. He was a partner for just shy of 4 years before transitioning in another phase of his life. Steven worked for the Jason’s Deli in the Dallas Fort Worth area. He managed operations as an assistant manager and then within six months, he was promoted to General Manager of the Lewisville, TX location. He then was promoted to District Trainer and transferred to the Austin, TX market to oversee the Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana area training. Steven was also responsible for the training of all new franchise partners. After 8 years with Jason’s Deli, he accepted a position with Schlotzsky’s. Once joining the Schlotzsky’s team, he managed the Cedar Park location after two months he was then promoted to Concept Trainer from May 2006 – April 2011. Steven opened 35 Schlotzsky's concept restaurants and helped established new restaurant opening procedures. He also designed, developed, and implemented franchisee training courses and was responsible for preparing and instructing diversity training sessions for franchisees and employees. Steven provided coaching, mentoring, and ongoing support for adoption of new company programs. From April 2011 – 2015 Steven was the Franchise Business Consultant, for Schlotsky’s in Austin, TX. He provided direct company representation for 34 restaurants collaborating with 28 franchise owners across 11 states. He worked with franchisees to improve financial performance including development of business and marketing plans. He monitored and ensured franchisee compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures and National Programs. Steven also directed portions of remodeling and opening 28 Schlotzsky’s restaurants and Schlotzsky’s Multi-brand locations.
Steve’s passion for the business was strong and deep and he enjoyed all the daily challenges it brought. Steve’s number one goal was to always inspire and develop people and his family members. Steve loved to share knowledge and see people grow. The other thing he most enjoyed was building lasting relationships with the people he met at Schlotzsky’s from his guests to staff members. Steve was highly organized and capable of executing multiple projects simultaneously. He also enjoyed being creative and thinking of new and different ways to accomplish tasks. He was very competitive and he always gave it his all. Steve could always be counted on to be there and to help be it in his professional life or with his family. Steve was not afraid of long hours and hard work, and he believed if that we help others, and if ever the time came when we need their help, people will be there to help us. Steven traveled through out the country and one of his areas was New York. One day about 2 years ago out of the blue his family members received a text with pictures from Steven. The pictures were from the set of Good Morning America and the cast that morning. Steven had set up their buffet of Schlostsky’s delights to much of the enjoyment and appreciation.
Steve enjoyed fishing and crabbing growing up and he also enjoyed break dancing in his youth. He enjoyed watching his Texas Tech Raiders football team and his band. He enjoyed being around his family and cooking for them and was looking forward to opening up his very own food trailer.
Steven is preceded in death by his grandfather Ernesto “Pancho” Mendez, grandfather Frank Lopez and his grandmother Delores Lopez and his niece Jennifer Janda. Steven leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Martha Hay. His daughters Alejandro Yvette, Jacqueline Daniera and his son Juan Jose his wife Heather and their sons Alejandro, Angel, and daughter Helena. And also his grandson Adiel Vinnitri.
Steven also leaves behind his grandmother Marie Mendez and uncles and aunts; Jose Ernesto “Joe Mendez and his wife Rosie of Georgetown, Enrique “Ricky” Mendez of Georgetown, Celia “Sally” Mendez of Round Rock, Rey Mendez and his wife Marie of Georgetown, Sylvia Janda of Georgetown and Chris Lopez of Angleton. Steven also leaves behind his cousins Tim and his wife Danielle, Amanda Mendez, Victoria and her husband Chad Schneider, Mathew Lemons, Joshua Lemons, Ethan Rey Mendez, Logan Mendez, Reagan Mendez and Michael Olivares along with numerous other loving family members and friends. And finally, Steven leaves behind his sister Stephane Lopez that he affectionialy called “T”, his brother Kevin Hay which he called him Kev and his wife Lauren his nephew Brayden James Hay and his niece Brianna Renee Hay, his dad Sal and his mother Maggie Lopez. Steven had an unconditional for his family. His family was his everything.
