

William L. Mitchell, age 85, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017. He was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky, April 1, 1931 to William L Mitchell II and Rebecca Gaunt Mitchell. He graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville, Indiana, of which he attended the 65th High School Reunion of the Bosse Bulldogs in 2014; he loved his 49'ers. After graduation, he earned a Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degree in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, became the first PhD Professional Engineer hired by IBM in 1957 and where he advanced to upper management and subsequently into retirement after 35 years of dedicated service. After retirement, he taught at The University of Texas at Austin, and at Texas A&M.
Bill volunteered for The Caring Place for the past 20+ years, repairing virtually anything such as cars, clocks, sewing machines, typewriters and even doing maintenance repairs for their facilities . Bill was an avid RV'er before they were even commercially available by converting city buses into motor homes and traveled to every state in the country, aside from Alaska and Hawaii. He was a charter member of the Family Motor Coach Association. Golf was another major passion of his since he was 15, by discovering a golf club in the trash. He so loved the game that he repaired, designed, and built numerous golf clubs. He also donated dozens of sets of clubs to 'Tiger's First Tee' program for his 80th birthday.
Music was another passion of his, he sang in his High School choir and barbershop, including singing with the Austin Chord Rangers for many years. He continued to sing in the church choir as long as he was able. He also taught himself how to play the piano, and was recently learning to play the organ.
Bill is proceeded in death by his mother, father, brother, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by wife of 60+ years, Evelyn Bricken Mitchell; daughter, Mary Charlene Lee; son, William L Mitchell IV; daughter, Rebecca Mason and husband Mike, daughter, Julia Turner and her husband David; son, Michael Mitchell and wife Yumiko; daughter, Martha Drake and husband Gordon; and daughter, Christy King; his grandchildren, Edward Lee and wife Alison, Jonathan Turner, Justin Mason, Evan Lee and wife Ellen, Jeremy Turner and wife Anna, grandson and adopted son Aaron Mitchell and wife Nicole, Shaw Drake and wife Alicia, Katie Lee Melikian and husband Lance Melikian, Amanda Turner Leser and husband Patrick, Megan Mason McClintic and husband Ian, Alex King, Kendrick Mitchell, Autumn King, Shelby Drake, and Saya Mitchell; great grandchildren, Ruby Lee, Cooper Melikian, Elijiah and Owen Drake, Alora Mitchell, and three great grandchildren on the way. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Anne Mitchell Damron and husband Bill; nephew, Wallace Damron; and nieces, Dyan Damron and Tollie Damron Medley.
Family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Georgetown, Texas. Interment will follow at St, John’s Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.
