

His memorial service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 10:00 am at Central Church of Christ with Pastor Lyle Hinebauch officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Central’s Missions or Farm & Ranch Museum. Online condolences may be left at www.geringchapel.com. Gering Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Darrell was born on April 13, 1928 in Minatare, Nebraska to Jesse and Ruth (Conklin) Ingwerson. He grew up on farms near Minatare and on a Dairy Farm near Scottsbluff. Darrell attended schools in Minatare, Scottsbluff grade and high school, graduating in 1946. He attended Jr. College for 2 years, then attended the University of NE for 1 ½ years before joining the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was assigned to the Hughes Aircraft Radar School in Culver City, CA for 6 months and the remaining time at Lowr’y Field in Denver, CO instructing Aircraft Radar armament repair troops.
Darrell married Bonny Ewing December 27, 1950 in the Gering Methodist Church. After an honorable discharge Darrell finished his college at the University of NE at Lincoln with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956. After graduation from the University, Darrell accepted a job with the University of CA at Los Alamos, NM working in Design and proving of Detonators for Nuclear weapons and the design of Experimental equipment. During this time they raised 3 daughters. Upon retirement in 1984, they moved to Gering and built a house on Carter Canyon Road.
Darrell served as Pres. For the Platte Valley Historical Museum in Gering for 2 ½ years and later volunteered at the Farm and Ranch Museum. Darrell served as Chairman of the “Sugar Valley Rally” for the first ten years. His hobby has always been hunting, fishing and especially anything mechanical. Darrell and lifelong pal Marvin Crom spent many years finding, restoring and enjoying showing gas powered antique engines at antique shows in the five state area. Darrell restored several antique autos and owned several motorcycles over the years.
Survivors include his daughters Valerie (Carl) Wilson of Scottsbluff, NE; Sheryl (Steve) McLean of Mitchell, NE; Diana (Rick) Deeds of Scottsbluff, NE; grandchildren Tennille (Todd) Womack of Alcalde, NM, Stefanie (Bryan) VanBuren of Laramie, WY; Danny McLean of Lafayette, CO, Brandon (Niki) Deeds of Kearney, NE and Garrett (Emily) Deeds of Omaha, NE; 6 great grandchildren; one sister Carol Phinney ; brother-in-law Ethan Ekberg and sister-in-law Barbara Ewing and dear friend Clarence Maupin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Richard (Dick) and Katie Ingwerson, brothers-in-law Daniel Phinney and Edson Ewing, sister-in-law Betty (Ewing) Ekberg and his wife Bonny.
