Lorna, at home in Toronto on December 15, 2023. She was born
in Port Morien on December 21, 1925, to Cora and Reuben
MacIntosh and lived there most of her life. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, George MacDonald, in 2002, and by her beloved son, David, in 2003. Shortly thereafter
she spent increasingly more time in Toronto with her daughter,
travelling with friends, and enjoying many musical events. She
loved attending coffee parties and movies, and her beautiful
smile and spirit attracted many new friends in Toronto and New
Jersey while treasuring her friends in Cape Breton.
Eleanor had a varied career path as a mother, teacher, bank
teller, government employee with NS Consumer Services, and
community volunteer. She was a Life Member of St. John’s
United Church, Port Morien, the United Church Women, and
Rippling Wave Rebekah Lodge; she taught Sunday School and
enjoyed singing in choirs, taking bus tours with George, reading,
skating, baking, doing handiwork, and maintaining her home and
garden. She took great delight in travelling to attend concerts given by her son and daughter
and her support meant the world to both of them. She adored her grandson, Ian, and she was
thrilled to welcome her great-granddaughter, Hadley, into the family in 2022. Eleanor shared a
special bond with Lorna’s partner, Tony, who always enjoyed her quick wit and intelligence.
Eleanor exuded resilience and deep faith in times of trial and her eyes sparkled with her joy for
life. In recent years both mobility and wellness declined, but Eleanor maintained a very positive
attitude, charming her caregivers, and astonishing health professionals with her stamina, even
to the last minutes of her life. She died listening to a recording of Lorna and David.
Eleanor is survived by daughter, Lorna (Toronto) and her partner, Tony Bahri (NJ), grandson Ian
and his partner, Jackie Dunn, and their daughter, Hadley (St. John’s, NL); sister Hazel Reid
(Halifax), sister-in-law Margaret MacKenzie (Glace Bay) and many cherished nieces, nephews,
and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband George, son David, special

MacIntosh, and brother-in-law Campbell Reid.
