
He was the son of the late James Edward and Beatrice Celestina (Sharpe) Murphy of Port Morien.
Survived by his wife of 61 years, Torrey Langwith, sons James (Carmel MacLean) of St. Albans, NL, Donald (Jennifer Cole) of New Mills, NB and Robert (Rebecca Waters) of Rainy River, ON, grandchildren: Christina (Gunther Hodder), Matthew (Corilee Hollett), DJ (Kaitlyn Clark), Jeremy (Alysha Bulman) and Brady (Mylene Aube), great grandson Henrik Murphy as well as numerous nieces, nephews cousins and friends. Butch is also survived by sisters Mary Napier, Glace Bay and Dorothy (Irvin) Gouthro, Port Morien, brothers Kent (Joan), Orangeville, ON and Robert (Margo), Halifax, NS.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother-in-law James Napier.
Following his graduation from Morrison Glace Bay High School, Harold joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he trained as a Medical Assistant and later as an x-ray technologist. In 1965, he went to work at Pictou Sutherland Memorial Hospital, which a year later became Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital. In October 1966, Harold became the Chief Technologist of the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow where he remained for the next 28 years. While living in Pictou, he was president of Pictou Minor Hockey, manager of Maripac Midget B team and an organizer of the Northumberland Junior B League. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge #1 in Pictou for 51 years. A life member of St. Mary's River Association. A member of St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, serving on the Vestry as Warden, Treasurer and Parish Council. He served as chair of the Pictou town school bard
Harold enjoyed the outdoors especially walks in the woods, hunting and salmon fishing. Many wonderful times were spent at the camp in Smithfield, Guysborough Co. In 2000, Harold and Torrey left Pictou and came back home to Port Morien and renewed their friendship with the congregation of St. Paul's Anglican Church.

In keeping with Harold's wishes a graveside service in St. Paul's Cemetery, Black Brook will take place at a later time.
