Age 99-Glace Bay / Mira
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Hazel MacDonald, of Reserve St. Glace Bay on May 5, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Donkin, she moved with her parents to the Marion Bridge area, where she met her future husband Angus. They established their home in Glace Bay where they raised their family. She was the daughter of the late William and Sadie (Simpson) Hussey.
She was employed at McFadgen Bakery as a cake decorator for many years. She was a long time volunteer with the Town House. Hazel was a long standing member of Gordon United Church holding various offices, was active in the UCW and received a plaque for 50 years service in the choir. She was a founding member of Mira Seniors and Pensioners Centre. She enjoyed participating in the many social activities there.
Hazel’s interests included painting, knitting and fancy work, the flower gardens, reading and baking-her cinnamon buns which were always a hit with family. Her highest priority was her family and she eagerly awaited the visits of her absent family members. The door was always open for family and friends to share in conversation and a cup of tea.
Surviving members of her immediate family are daughters Isabel Morrison and Elinor Leah (Reggie) Skanes, both of Glace Bay; sons Clifford (Carol) Sarnia, Ontario and Glen (Mary Jo) Woodstock, N.B. Also surviving are her sisters Audrey MacDonald and Elva (Ron) Eisenhauer , both of Marion Bridge; daughter-in-law Irene and sister -in-law Lillian Hussey.
