

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Marie (Redmond) Richards.
Jean served in the Canadian army during World War II and was stationed in Quebec. Following her service, Jean worked at the Halifax Dockyards and the Canadian Coast Guard Center in Sydney. Jean was talented at knitting and crocheting and produced many beautiful and practical items for her family and friends.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, William “Junior” Buchanan, sisters; Mary Richards, Vera Jennings, Alice Ballard and brothers, Ivor and Lloyd. She is survived by her sister, Marguerite Caldwell and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was a supporter of Knox United Church.
The family would like to thank Dr. Diaz, Dr. James MacLean and the staff of Taigh na Mara for their attention and concern for Jean. Also greatly appreciated was the care Jean received from the C.B Regional and the Glace Bay Hospital.
Visitation for Jean will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 1-2 pm in Patten Funeral Home,71 Union Street, Glace Bay with funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm in the Patten chapel. Interment will be in Forest Haven memorial Gardens.
