

It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Jeanne McKillop, age 85, on Saturday October 24,2015 at the Glace Bay Hospital with loving family at her side.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth McKillop and children Peggy Goulden (Dartmouth) Jamey Gagne (Glace Bay), Harla (Jim) O’Neill (London, Ont), Kathy MacLeod (Glace Bay) and Gordon (Texas); sister Ina (Jim) Kelly, Anita (Bob) McGowan, Linda (Ricky) Pitman; brother Byron Hogge. Jeanne truly loved her 9 grandchildren Donnie, Jennifer, Paula Jeanne, Sara, Allison, Lauren, Donald, Angelia and Amanda. Jeanne also enjoyed time spent with her 7 great grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was predeceased by a son Jimmy, son-in-law Richard Goulden and brother Gordon.
Born in Biddeford, Maine USA, Jeanne grew up in Milltown, New Brunswick before she moved to Glace Bay. Jeanne retired in 1994 after 23 years with the Cape Breton Regional Housing Authority. Prior to that, she spent three years with the Glace Bay Citizens Service League where she was the league’s management coordinator in their efforts to improve economic conditions for people in the community. In 1971 she was named Glace Bay’s Citizen of the Year in recognition of her great contributions and services to the community.
After retiring, Jeanne continued her community service through volunteer work with her church Knox United, giving cooking classes at St. Anne’s, helping with Meals on Wheels and she was a regular volunteer with Friends of the Manor where she helped improve the lives of countless senior citizens.
Jeanne spent her last few years residing at Seaview Manor. We are very grateful for the wonderful care, love and respect the staff of Seaview Manor gave to Jeanne in her final days.
The family will be celebrating her life and receiving guests at Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St Glace Bay, on Wednesday October 28,2015 from 12-1pm with Funeral service at 1pm in Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Johnston officiating.
