It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Judith Ann (Burden) Price on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, on April 18, 1944, Judy was the daughter of the late James and Catherine (Gillis) Burden.
She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, David Price, brother Donald Burden, and nephew Jeffrey Burden.
Judy is survived and forever remembered by her loving daughters Alana Price (Andrew and Leah Ryan), Alyson (Bruce) Colford and her pride and joy, cherished grandsons, Logan and Luke Colford, who brought her immeasurable joy.
Judy will also be remembered dearly by her sister Jane (Bruce) Clark and sister-in-law Anne Burden.
Also left to mourn are sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and her cherished group of friends.
A graduate of the 1967 class of the Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing, Judy achieved her lifelong ambition of becoming a registered nurse. From a five year old little girl, hospitalized with rheumatic fever, whereupon a kind nurse had taken the time to create her a nurse's hat out of paper, a dream was instantly born, to become a nurse, just like them.
Judy enjoyed a long, fulfilling and dedicated career as a registered nurse sharing her skill, special care, compassion, smiles, tenderness and great comfort for every patient and colleague she encountered. Her belief in and dedication to service in nursing was at all times evident.
She had a special way that warmed the hearts of everyone who met her, and the qualities that made her the person she was, have left us with beautiful memories.
Judy was steadfast, loyal, and generous to the family, friends, and community she loved, taking pleasure in caring for others.
She took great pride in her home, pouring love and care into every detail to ensure that everything was perfect – filling it with daily treats, baking, entertaining with joy, making sure everyone enjoyed a hot cup of tea, fresh homemade biscuits and shortbreads.
Judy was a lifelong member of Knox United Church in Glace Bay. From her early days, she was involved with social groups of CGIT, church camps, later church life, working committees, close-to-her-heart groups such as volunteering at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Center, quilting, bowling and Jubilee Rebecca Lodge #14, where she was very active, holding many offices including Noble Grand. Judy was fun-loving, eager and an active participant who totally enjoyed being part of, giving to these groups, gaining life experience, leadership, and forming close bonds and friendships that still exist to this day.
Judy was blessed with a circle of close friends and family who were always there in every way, surrounding her with their constant love and care, daily phone calls and availability to share the best of times, leaving lasting and forever memories.
Judy’s greatest source of pride was her two grandchildren, Logan and Luke. The love and joy they had for each other was boundless. Living right next door, Judy was a constant presence in their daily lives. Logan and Luke were truly blessed with so much of Nana’s special love. They will forever be connected by their “invisible string.”
What could be more precious than a Nana’s special love?
She’s always ready with a smile and understanding heart.
The love she gave so deeply was a blessing from above.
Nothing is more precious than Nana’s special love.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to EHS, the staff of ER, Fourth Floor, OR, and ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as the many doctors, nurses, pharmacists and pharmacy staff, for the compassion and care shown to Judy. In addition, thank you to the medical staff of Cardiology at the QEII Health Science Center, Halifax, Ambulatory Care at the Glace Bay Hospital, Heart Function Clinic at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Home and Hospital Blood Collections and VON Services.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, August 31 from 3-7pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral Services to be conducted at Sydney River United Protestant Church, 1524 Kings Rd Sydney River, Friday, September 1, at 2:00pm. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com.
Donations in memory may be made to the Glace Bay General Hospital Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton, Knox United Church, or a charity of choice.
