It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marguerite Olwyn (Richards) Caldwell on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the age of 104 years. Mom was born and educated in Glace Bay. She was a graduate of the Glace Bay School of Nursing. Marguerite was the daughter of the late Stanley and Marie (Redmond) Richards. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Aubrey Caldwell, and her beloved son, Lloyd Melvin Caldwell, as well as her brothers, Ivor (Freda), Lloyd (Marjorie), and sisters, Mary, Vera (Sam Jennings), Jean (William Buchanan), and Alice (Paul Ballard). She is survived by her son John (Isabel Carmichael), daughter, Vera (Pat Burke), and daughter-in-law, Catherine Caldwell; grandchildren Rick (Tara), Elizabeth (Austin), Amy, Kate (Kevin), Bree (Dylan), Jeff (Tamara), Chris (Jennifer); great grandchildren, Jessie, Jack, Henry, Liam, Cole, and Caden.
Mom was a life-long resident of Glace Bay but especially loved her time at the bungalow in Round Island, surrounded by family and life-long friends. Her greatest delight in life was having family around and celebrating that spirit of love, especially the annual family reunion in May, where we all ate lobsters, laughed and told stories around the bon fire.
Mom was a dedicated and caring nurse who still found time for her family, church, and community. She was a member of Knox United Church, UCW, the Rebekahs, the hospital auxiliary, the nurses alumni association, and was an avid bowler.
Mom and Dad loved to travel and spent many enjoyable winters in Florida where they made many close friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr Gordon Spencer for his exemplary care and compassion, and to the wonderful staff at Seaview Manor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, CNIB, or charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. To share a memory of condolence with the family please go to www.pattenfuneral.com.
