We, the family of Phyllis Roberta Adams of Glace Bay, wish to announce her passing on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital with family at her side.
Born in New Waterford, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Alex J. and Agnes MacLeod and was raised in Donkin, N.S.
Music was a big part of Phyllis’ life. She was a well known singer and soloist in the Cape Breton area, performing at weddings, funerals, church services and celebrations, and Rotary Club productions. She competed in numerous music festivals in her early years and was the Director of St. Luke’s United Church Choir.
Phyllis moved to Glace Bay in 1960 when she married Kirk Adams, owner, Black Diamond Pharmacy. Here, she was a long-time member of Knox United Church, a respected member of the Knox Senior Choir, ran Bible Study groups with youth members and participated in the UCW. She was also a member of the I.O.D.E. , loved watching sports and playing cards with her Bridge Club.
Surviving are her daughter Audrey (Todd) White, Aurora, Ontario; son Paul, Halifax, N.S.; sisters Annie(Wilfred) Edmond, Donkin and Margaret Shepard, Mira Road. Phyllis had seven grandchildren: Kirk Adams, Alexandra Adams, Elizabeth White, Rebekah Adams, Sara Adams, Samuel White and Max Adams. She was predeceased by parents and husband Kirk , brothers John Robert (Billy), Johnathan (Jackie), James(Jimmy).
Visitation for the late Phyllis Roberta Adams will be held in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay on Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 2pm in Knox United Church , Glace Bay, with Rev John Finlayson officiating and interment in St. Luke’s Cemetery, Donkin. Donation can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
