It is with great sadness that we the family regret to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved grandmother Phyllis Snow at the age of 98. She was born in Surrey, England on May 19, 1923 the middle child of a family of eight. She was predeceased by both parents Henry and Lily Gosley.
She was the heart and soul of our family. Arriving in Canada after WWII in July of 1946, she began a new life in the small village of Donkin with our grandfather to raise her own family and eventually help raise her grandchildren. Our grandmother loved her family tremendously with her whole heart and was adored by all those who met her.
She was a true English lady who always had a pot of tea on, fresh baking for company and candy for the neighbourhood kids. She always saw the best in everyone and had a laugh that was contagious, a story or a joke to tell and a glimmer in her eye.
Nan was always involved with volunteer work for the Donkin Legion such as dances and card games in her younger years. She was one of the founding members of the Donkin Legion Ladies Auxiliary in 1949 and served as a past president of it for 7 years in total. She also belonged to the Glace Bay Pensioners Dart League and played darts until the age of 92.
Nan was very proud of the fact she was an English Warbride and took great pride in her rich family history. Her strength of will and strong mind is a legacy to all who knew her.
She is survived by her 3 loving grandchildren Phyllis (Michael), Brian ‘Bubba’ and Alison (Jeff), sister-in-law Nancy and several nieces and nephews both living here and in England.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Albert, both her children Linda and Brian, son-in-law Errol, daughter-in-law Linda and all her siblings Harry, Fred, Frank, Lily, Bob, Elsie and Reggie.
A funeral service will be held at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay on Thursday, April 21 at 2pm. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Luke’s Cemetery, Donkin.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Seaview Manor for the care they provided over the past few months. Also thank you to the ER and 4D staff at the CBRH for the care shown to our grandmother during her last few days. A special thank you also to Dr. Ley for all his care over the many years.
