Ruth Verna Ellsworth

We, the family of Ruth Verna Ellsworth, regret to announce her passing on January 25, 2026. She passed peacefully with family by her side. Ruth was born on October 3, 1956 in Glace Bay and was the daughter of the late George and Beryl (Andrews) Ellsworth.

Ruth resided at Maple Hill Manor since 2021, where she made many friends. She enjoyed crafting and loved shopping. In her early years she was employed with the Bank of Montreal.

Ruth is survived by her son Jason Ellsworth and daughter Nicole Gorham-Elder (Darren), sister Debbie (Reggie) Sabastian, brothers John (Nancy) Ellsworth and Jim (Laura) Ellsworth as well as many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her sister Anne (2024) and brother George (in infancy).

Cremation has taken place. A time of gathering will be held on Friday, February 6 from 2 until 4pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting pattenfuneral.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the Maple Hill Manor for the fantastic care and affection that they provided to Ruth. They made such a difference in Ruth's final years and I can't express how much it means to the whole family.
