It is with sadness of heart that we the family of William Roy Tanner announce his passing on Tuesday, April 19th following a long and courageous battle with cancer. William was born on June 14, 1948 in Glace Bay to the late William and Edith (Andrews) Tanner.
William spent a large part of his working life living and working in Yarmouth. Then in 1990, following an unanticipated early retirement, he moved back to his beloved Cape Breton and the town of Glace Bay. Bill loved the outdoors and enjoyed times on the Mira with family. He was also an animal lover and enjoyed the company of his cats.
Bill is survived and will be missed by his sisters Marlene (Jim) Whalen of Mira and their son Hughie (Stephanie) and son Nathan, June (Gary) Hillier of Ontario and their children Steven and Carrie, Shirley (Bill) Starr of BC and their children Norma and Allan and Betty (Jim) Gibson of Ontario and Betty’s son Gary.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 2pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay with Rev. Dorothy Miller officiating. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.pattenfuneral.com. Interment will take place in Black Brook Cemetery. If desired, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Cancer Society.
