She was born October 4, 1953, in Calico Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of William Lorne and Ora Lee (Yancey) Dockins. Ann married Lonnie Steven Hellums on December 29, 1970. They made their home and raised their children in Kansas City, Missouri.
She worked for North Kansas City School District as a Food Service Manager until her retirement in 2020. Her favorite past time was spending time with family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ann loved children and teaching children about the Lord. She enjoyed spending time in the sun working on her yard and flowers but also sitting by a fire at night. She just loved to be outside.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ora Dockins; one infant daughter, Annetta Jane Hellums; one granddaughter, Victoria Christine Hellums; and six siblings, Bessie Marie Dockins, Alva Lorne Dockins, Gerald Dean Dockins, Joy Lee Dockins, Norma Rhea Dockins, and Larry Dockins.
Ann is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lonnie Hellums, of the home; one son, Roy Hellums and wife Cristi; one daughter, Tina Hellums, all of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Levi Allen Mays, Danielle Elizabeth Hellums, Mandalynne Renee Hellums, Zachary James Hellums, Kody Allan Oglesby, Alexander Dacota Clay, and Samantha Reynee Clay; five great grandchildren, Matthew Wayne Kesner, Aubrey Ann Schone, Hazel Grace Lee, Victoria Elizabeth Lee, and Zoey Annetta Clay; six siblings, Merle Jean Dockins, Velman Edward Dockins, Bennie Francis Dockins, Norman Wade Dockins, Karry Verl Dockins, and Willie June Dockins.
A visitation for Ann will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mission View Baptist Church, 3400 NE 80th St., Kansas City, MO 64119. A celebration of life will occur Friday, February 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Mission View Baptist, 3400 NE 80th St., Kansas City, MO 64119. A committal service will occur Friday, February 23, 2024 at 3:00 PM at White Chapel Cemetery, 6600 North East Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri 64119.
