Arthur B. Macdonald, 73 of Platte City, Missouri passed away April 5, 2018 at KU Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Art was born October 16, 1944. He graduated from North Kansas City High School 1962 and later earned his Associates Degree from UMKC. He was married to his sweetheart Joyce Benton in 1966 (They have celebrated 51 years together).
Art joined the Army in 1966 and was Sergeant of the Army 101st Airborne Division and served in Vietnam. He earned: Cross of Gallantry Vietnam, Wound Medal, Army Commendation Medals for Heroism and Meritorious Service, Life Member of VFW along with the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
After the service Art began his career with TWA and American Airlines as Supervisor-Hangar, MCI Base Maintenance and retired after working for 37 years.
Art will always be remembered for his fun-loving sense of humor. He never met a stranger. He will be lovingly remembered by family and a wide circle of friends. Artie is survived by his wife, Joyce of 51 years, his daughter Stacy Kay Bales, 3 granddaughters, Kayla, Courtney, and Sydney, Sister Mary Ann Sapp (Dale), Sister-In Law Sandra Kay Carpenter (Mickey), Nephews James Carpenter (Dana), Jeff Carpenter (Ann), Nieces Julie Thrasher (Gerald), Brenda Shores (Craig) and many great nieces and great nephews, best friends Larry and Sharon Sapp. Art was preceded in death by his only Son - Scott Arthur Macdonald.
Artie had many hobbies and passions. Some of which involved telling stories, woodworking and making things, driving the tractor on his famous hayrides, dancing, dominos, traveling the world, and cruises, but his biggest passions were his family and spending time with friends. Becoming “PaPa” was such a special event and he earned that title from 3 special granddaughters. Artie is now at peace and reunited with his Son Scott!
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your favorite charity, American Cancer Society or Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth in Art’s honor.
