

Basil Lewis, 62, of Clinton County, MO passed away Sunday March 12, 2023. A private family service with military honors will be held at Newcomer's White Chapel Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. The family would like to suggest memorial contributions to the Basil Lewis Memorial Fund, checks or donations to Ashli Hayes in care Newcomers White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 N. Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119.
Basil was born April 30, 1960 in Smithville, MO to Basil F. Lewis, Sr and Geraldine V. (Hadley) Lewis. He was a graduate of Smithville High School in 1979, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the invasion of Granada. During his enlistment he met Andrea LeDoux, following his discharge they moved back to the Smithville area. Basil enjoyed his loving family, anything outdoors including hunting, fishing, going to the lake, canoeing and mushroom hunting, he enjoyed building anything with his hands. He was a member and former Commander of the Smithville American Legion Post #58. He was an animal lover, presently caring for his donkeys, chickens, dogs and cats. Basil worked as a Supervising Foreman on the grounds of White Chapel Memorial Gardens and Barry Cemetery, retiring after 38 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Andrea Lewis, children, Michael (Michele) Helmuth-Lewis, Ashli (Nick) Hayes, Basil (Eimile) Lewis III, sisters, Nancy (Jim) Thompson, Trish (John) Maupin, Pam (Raymond) Rider, and 3 grandchildren, Max, Lilly, and Rex. And many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Basil was loved and cherished by many in our community, who will be greatly and sincerely missed by all.
