

Betty was born on April 11, 1924, in Quincy, Illinois to Arla and Frances Slaughter. She was adopted in 1925 by her maternal uncle, Daniel (Nancy) Slater. Betty graduated from Barry High School, Barry Illinois in 1942. Betty married Leslie Gully, her high school sweetheart on September 27, 1942.
During World War II, Betty worked in the shoe factory in Quincy Illinois making boots to send overseas to the soldiers. Once the war was over Betty and Leslie farmed in Barry, Illinois for a few years. Their lives moved them to Chillicothe, Missouri in 1955, where they owned and operated “Gully Lanes”, bowling alley, for over 20 years. Betty and Les moved to Liberty, Missouri in 1971. The couple had 2 children. Betty was an active and dedicated member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Betty was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Leslie (1991); & her sister, Virginia Slater Gallaher (1990); her maternal uncle (& aunt) Daniel & Nancy Slater.
Betty is survived by her son, Dana Gully, of Kansas City, Missouri; her daughter, Diana (John A. Grindel) Gully-Grindel of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughters, Tracy Lynn Staton and Leslie Nicole Grindel both of Kansas City, Missouri.
A graveside service for Betty was held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Park Lawn Cemetery, Barry, Illinois.
