Betty Lou (Green) Loy, 94, died at 2:29 a.m. in North Kansas City Hospital of pneumonia, on Friday, May 9, 2025. She was born on November 3, 1930, in Dallas County, Missouri, but was a life-long resident of Clay County. Her parents were Hobert Green (1909-1989) and Kitty Evans (1910-2000). Betty had one brother, Jerry Green (1933-2013). Betty graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1948. She attended William Jewell College for two semesters, and worked for National Fidelity Life Insurance Company, where she met Calvin Loy (1928-1997) in 1949. Calvin came to Kansas City from his hometown, Paris, Illinois. They were married in Winnwood Baptist Church, December 14, 1951. After Calvin’s retirement in 1985, he and Betty began traveling the United States in an RV. Calvin died in 1997. Betty and Calvin had three sons: Randal J. Loy, Kevan Loy, and Brian Loy. Betty worked for Touche Ross (Deloitte), from 1980 to 1990. She served as the pastor’s secretary at First Baptist Church of North Kansas City for six years. Betty was the volunteer organist in Winnwood Baptist Church for thirty-three years, and was also the staff organist for both of the Northland D. W. Newcomers & Sons Funeral Homes. Later, she served as a paid organist at Winnwood Baptist Church to 2018. She volunteered at North Kansas City Hospital for several years. In 2001 and 2006, Betty accompanied Randal on choir tours to England and Europe. In 2008, Betty married Calvin’s older brother, J.D. Loy (1920-2013), and resided with him in Florida for part of each year. J.D. died in 2013.
Betty is survived by her three sons, step-daughter Christine (Loy) Kushner and spouse Marc Kushner of New Jersey, daughter-in-law, Shannon (McMahon) Loy, and her “BFF” Brenda (Hevalow) Loy, and six grandchildren: Kenneth Loy, spouse Missy (Domann) Loy; Jeremy Loy, spouse Lindsay (Horne) Loy; Cherrish (Loy) Graham, partner, Chet Chaney; Kevan Loy, of Chicago; Alecia Loy; and Catelyn (Beavers) Wilson, and spouse Tyler Wilson; and twelve great-grandchildren: Kenneth Loy, Jr.; Kylene Loy; Allie Loy; Kaiden Loy; Dayton Graham; Trenton Graham; Jayce Graham; Lacey Peycke; Nathan Peycke; Michael Beavers; Benjamin Wilson; and Damon Wilson; niece Debbie (Green) Joiner, all of the Kansas City Area; and several friends of many years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to cancer research or to Winnwood Baptist Church.
A visitation for Betty will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 10:30 AM, followed by a graveside service all at White Chapel Funeral Home.
