Billy Dale McClure, the only child of Harry Ernest McClure and Mabel Arlene (Walker) McClure, was born September 22, 1929 in New Hampton, Missouri. In 1942, the family moved to Kansas City, Kansas where his father went to work at the B-52 Bomber plant during World War II. During the war years, his mother worked at a glider factory as well.
Billy graduated with the class of 1947 from Wyandotte High School. After graduation, Billy went to work at Tension Envelope. He retired in September, 1993 after 45 years.
Billy met the love of his life, Betty Lou (Goodman), at Tension Envelope, where they were both employed. Billy and Betty were married in downtown Kansas City, June 3, 1950. To this union, two children were born; Donna (Bill) Sorenson and Danny (Ellen) McClure.
Three granddaughters were added to the family, Brandi (Paul) White, Vanessa (Brandon) McLain and Ashley (Mark) Gauthier. Five great grandchildren completed the family; they are Jenna and Evan White, William and Taylor Gauthier and Ivy McLain. Billy had one cousin, Linda (Walker) Eisenbarger of Bethany, Missouri. Linda has two children, Shana and Rob.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife Betty, son-in-law Bill Sorenson and brother and sister in-laws Wesley and Jean Goodman, Shirley and Chuck Pollack, Maxine and Leonard (Cotton) Sportsman and brother-in-law, Albert Pinkston.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, grandchildren, sister in-law and brother in-law, Dick and Elaine Samm, sister in law, Rosey Pinkston, many nieces and nephews, and special friends.
Billy enjoyed his family, genealogy, and in earlier years doing repair and remodeling projects to their home. He was a big fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs and enjoyed watching the games.
The family is humbled and forever grateful for Billy’s neighbors who cared for him and showed him much kindness. We are especially grateful to Paul and Sharon Billington for their acts of selfless care.
We would also like to thank the staff at the North Kansas City Hospital’s NorthCare Hospice House who cared for Billy the last days of his earthly journey. Their care, compassion, and kindness meant so much to us; we are grateful to each one.
Billy will forever remain in our hearts.
