She was born October 28, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Opal (McCaslin) Haworth. Bonnie graduated North Kansas City High School with the Class of 1951.
Bonnie married Robert Lee “Bob” Hinkle Sr., on June 2, 1951; this union was blessed with two children.
She enjoyed gardening, and special gatherings with her family. Bonnie was a full-time homemaker and mother, staying involved in the activities of her children, including later in her life extending her love and support to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bonnie enjoyed traveling, camping, and boating with her family and regularly participated in Kansas City’s annual American Royal Barbecue events. Bonnie was known among her family and friends for her award-winning potato salad, winning one year at The Great American B-B-Q Contest. She also prepared the unique family barbeque sauce recipe she received from her grandfather. As the story goes, he was so protective on his creation, he swore her to secrecy on the ingredients so that it could not be re-produced by others. She eventually shared the ingredients with her children, so the legacy of the recipe could be passed on to the next generation.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Hinkle Sr. (on June 29, 2005); two sisters, Nathleen Easom, and Delores Valentine.
Bonnie is survived by one son, Robert Hinkle Jr of Drexel, Missouri; one daughter, Doris (Hinkle) Retzlaff of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Matthew Retzlaff, Jonathan, (Nicole) Retzlaff, Jennifer (Reuel) Retzlaff-Anderson, Alicia Retzlaff, and Zachary, (Ashley) Hinkle. She has been blessed with seven great grandchildren: Bailey, Austin, Adelyn, Sophie, Noah, Tessa, and Abram; one brother, Fred Haworth Jr.; many nieces, nephews, and friends including Albert Eckilson, a close friend to Bonnie and her family.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Bonnie’s memory to Angel in the Sky Foundation, P.O. Box 901239, Kansas City, Missouri 64190, supporting those in need who are currently fighting cancer.
A graveside service for Bonnie will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at 9696 - White Chapel Cemetery, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119.
