Brent was born on September 19, 1972, in Coos Bay, Oregon to Keith and Clara Ferguson. He grew up in Oregon where he loved to fish and hunt with his father, Grandpa Ferguson, and his Uncle Jim Ferguson. He spent summers tubing on the Rickreall Creek with his best friend, Brad. Brent graduated high school from Layton High School in Layton, Utah in 1990, then attended college at Utah State University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering after being inspired by his Uncle Robert Luke.
Brent met his future wife, Jennifer Frasier, at Christian Life Center (Layton Assembly of God) in 1986. He was 15 years old, and Jen was 14 years old. He married his sweetheart and best friend, Jen, in 1992. They grew together spiritually through the leadership of their long-time pastor and friend, Reverend Myke Crowder. Through his time in youth group, Brent developed many lifelong friendships. Brent and Jen’s favorite vacationing spot was the Oregon Coast, where they attempted to make yearly trips. Brent frequently said that marrying Jen was the best decision he had ever made, short of asking Jesus to be Lord of his life. They enjoyed 32 years of marriage.
Brent began his career as a Project Manager for HHI Corp, a small family-owned, general construction company in Farmington, Utah. In 2004, Brent moved his family to Kansas City, Missouri to pursue a career with JE Dunn Construction. Brent was well known at JE Dunn as an amazing mentor and a skilled negotiator. Brent had the pleasure of working for JE Dunn for 18 years. His JE Dunn co-workers became some of his closest friends and supported Brent and his family through the years of his health issues. His work family was a source of tremendous encouragement to Brent.
Brent’s greatest accomplishment in life was his family. In 1996, Brent and Jen welcomed the first of their four sons, Devin Brent Ferguson. In 1998, they had the chaotic pleasure of welcoming identical twins, Brendan Keith Ferguson and Connor Paul Ferguson. In 2002, they completed their beautiful family when Zachary Dean Ferguson was born. Brent was an amazing father who led his family with a servant’s heart. His greatest desire for his sons was that they would also choose Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Brent was a math guru who loved numbers and an avid reader with science fiction being his favorite genre. He passed his love of math and reading on to his four sons. Brent had a passion for woodworking, which he expressed most through building fast pinewood derby cars with his sons and an epic play fort in the backyard. Brent enjoyed cooking, spending many hours in the kitchen with his mom over the past year of his life. He was a collector of unique kitchen gadgets, spices, and cooking oils - all of which he insisted were absolutely necessary. Brent was a strong man and a fighter. He battled and beat pancreatic cancer in 2012, allowing him 12 additional years to watch his sons grow into loving, caring men who all love Jesus. His quick wit made laughter around the dinner table and in his home common. Brent leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, quick wit, and wise counsel.
Brent is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer; four sons, Devin (Lacey) Ferguson and soon-to-arrive grandson, Brendan (Destiney) Ferguson, Connor Ferguson, and Zachary (Rebecca) Ferguson; his parents, Keith and Clara Ferguson; sister, Traci (Jeff) Lyons; brother-in-law and friend, Brian Frasier; brother-in-law's, Robert Frasier and Christopher (Tami) Frasier; nieces and nephews, Tori, Trey, Ashley, Jacob, Elizabeth, MaKenzie, and Levi (with whom Brent spent the greatest amount of time with over the past 2 years); as well as many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Brent was preceded in death by his best friend, Brad Schrag; father-in-law, Paul Frasier; mother-in-law, Linda Frasier-Dean; and grandparents, Delmer and Myrtle Ferguson and Clarence and Geraldine Luke.
