Chuck was born on February 13, 1960 in Chillicothe, MO to Donna F. (Gonder) and Robert E. Johnston. He graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1978.
Chuck was united in marriage to Penny Lee (Merino) on September 26, 1987 in Omaha, Nebraska. A father to five children, Joe, Doug, Amanda, Allie, and Sydney. His children remember him as a kind, hardworking man who was sarcastic with a great sense of humor. Chuck was a talented craftsman who could fix anything; from working on cars, to woodworking, helping with a remodel, or simply with a pine wood derby car. He was always the man to call first no matter what was wrong. Chuck was always the first person to get his hands dirty no matter the issue.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and who was passionate about his pond, fish tanks and his boat. He loved to go camping and attending his grandson’s Boy Scout outings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donna and Robert Johnston.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 34 years, Penny, 2 sons; Joe (Amber) Byrd of Ankney, Iowa and Doug (Camelia) Johnston of Hinesville, Georgia, 3 daughters; Amanda (Justin) Hepker of Liberty, Missouri, Allie (Andrew) Johnston of Kansas City, Missouri and Sydney Johnston of Kansas City, Missouri, brother; Billy Bob “Bob” Johnston and Sister, Gloria Sharp, 10 grandchildren; Maddux, Charlee, Bella, Payten, Mason, Keegan, Evelyn, Abigail, Claire, and Grace.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, February 21, 2022 from 4-6pm at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home 6600 NE Antioch Rd. Gladstone, MO 64119. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chuck’s life.
