He graduated from Northeast High School and served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer from 1961-1964.
Jim did transmission work before becoming an operator for Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) for more than 35 years. During that time, he enjoyed many hobbies and became very knowledgeable and fully capable at being an electrician, plumber, carpenter/builder and mechanic. After retirement, he built a street-legal dune buggy, his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clyde and Thelma (Stour) Gottstein and sister, Priscilla "Pete” McCormick.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda (Fuller), of the home; brother, John (Shirley) Gottstein, of Mt. Dora, FL; sons, James Gottstein, of Kansas City, MO and Dustin Gottstein, of Tustin, CA; his daughter, Heidi Gottstein, of Independence, MO; and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial graveside service will be held at White Chapel Cemetery on June 1, 2019, at 10:30 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Fond memories and condolences may be shared at www.legacy.com by signing the guest book.
