Earl was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Born in Hobart, Oklahoma, on February 14, 1936, Earl was the son of the late Orbie (O.C.) and Florence McLain. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and began teaching math. He then transitioned this over to a career in computer programming, starting when programming was in its early infancy when programmers handed over their code to data entry personnel who created punch cards which were fed into the computer. His "temporary" job programming for TWA ended up being a career which spanned over 25 years with TWA/PARS/Worldspan.
Earl met his beloved wife, Jerry, in Raton, New Mexico, while they were both teaching school. After a brief stay in Denver, Colorado, and Albany, New York, they settled in Gladstone, Missouri where they raised two children, Trisha and Brian. After their children were raised, they built their dream home in the country outside Farley, Missouri. Most recently, they resided in Kansas City, Missouri, just outside of Liberty, Missouri.
Earl's love of travel was fulfilled with many trips overseas as well as throughout the U.S. He enjoyed taking his family to explore new countries and cultures. This allowed him to also incorporate his love of photography to capture many of these special moments. When not traveling, he enjoyed puttering in his vegetable garden and small orchard.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jerry; his children, Trisha Armintrout (and her husband, Randy) and Brian McLain (and his wife, Phyllis); his grandchildren, Dana Creason (and her husband, Tielyr) and Chris McLain; his great grandchildren, Everly and Bennett Creason; and his sister, Glenda Kelting.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 10 AM at Liberty Church of Christ (1401 Glenn Hendren Dr. Liberty, Missouri 64068). Inurnment will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Gladstone, Missouri.
