Edmond was born June 3, 1933 in Kansas City to Cornealius Franklin Newland and Mary Josephine Gillespie. Edmond graduated from North Kansas City High School and married Pat Flynn. Edmond served in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic crew chief during the Korean Conflict. In 1965, Edmond graduated from William Jewell College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Edmond served as assistant pastor of Winnwood Baptist Church of Kansas City and pastor of Evangelistic Center Church in Amarillo. Edmond later worked in the computer software industry and cofounded SDMI, a software development company. Upon retirement, Edmond continued to pursue his calling to the ministry as a teacher and a pastor. Edmond was a faithful and loving husband for 59 years. He was a dedicated caregiver for his wife, Pat, who had Parkinson's later in life.
Edmond and Pat were blessed with four children: Michael Neal Newland, Michele Grinnan, Kathy Place, and Paul J. Newland, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 4 starting at 2pm followed by a graveside service starting at 3pm both at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery.
