Eunice was born on February 7, 1935, in Moody, MO to Cyrus Emmett and Nancy Jewel Newberry. She graduated from West Plains High School in 1952 and left for Kansas City the day after graduation. At the age of 17, her first job was at Hallmark Cards. A few years later she met Raymond Holloway and the two were married in 1957. They had two children Jeffrey and Philip. Eunice and Ray were business owners together for many years, retiring in 1997. She was a talented record keeper and kept the business highly organized. In addition, she was a very hard worker while remaining gentle, kind, and patient. She was well known for the amazing meals she provided the staff at their business – Leisure World Pools in North Kansas City.
She served God all her life and was baptized in a creek near Moody Church of Christ at the age of 13. She enjoyed going to church and was a dedicated member of the Nashua Church of Christ for over 50 years. She loved hymns and spoke often of singing with her mother and sisters while they worked. This continued throughout her life whether in church, with family, and most recently with residents and staff where she lived.
Eunice was a devoted wife, married to Ray for 67 years. All who know them are aware you can’t mention Eunice without Ray or Ray without Eunice. Very rarely apart for the entirety of their marriage, they ran a business, raised kids, chased grandkids, traveled across the US, and were active in church together. Being a mother and caring for her family was extremely important to Eunice. She attended and organized family reunions, hosted countless family gatherings at her home, held Easter kite flying events and egg hunts, and cooked holiday meals. She was known for being an avid gardener with an amazing green thumb.
The last 35 years, her seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren became a huge part of her life. Even up to a few days before her passing, she wanted to hear about their lives, what they were doing, how school was going, and always wanted to encourage them in everything they did.
She is preceded in death by her parents Emmett and Jewel, brothers Clyde, Roy, Bob, Sam and Calvin Newberry, and sister Norma Burtrum.
Eunice is survived by her husband Ray and their two sons; Jeffrey (Amy) Holloway and Philip (Kristen) Holloway; her seven grandchildren Tyler (Danielle), Ethan (Heather), Bailey (Luke), Madeline, Bennett (Sally), Ellie, and Katie; her four great grandchildren Jordan, Carter, Hazel, and Madison; her younger sister Cathy (Howard) Harris; two sisters-in-law Jane and Betty Newberry, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oxford Grand for their amazing care of Eunice the last several years. Also, LaWana, Jessica, Grace, and Lea at Advanced Hospice for their extraordinary, compassionate care.
