Greg was born on November 24, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended school in the North Kansas City School District and graduated in 1980. After that he enrolled in Maple Woods Community College and attended for a period where he majored in art. One of his paintings was displayed in the living room of his home for many years. He spent his life in the community he loved, building friendships that lasted a lifetime. For 41 years, Greg proudly worked at Cascone’s, where he was known for his steady presence, easy smile, and the kindness he showed to co-workers and customers alike. His dedication and work ethic made him a valued part of the Cascone’s family. The Cascone’s staff had a birthday celebration for him on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Greg had a quiet, gentle spirit and a big heart. Besides being a devoted son, Greg was also a devoted friend to his mother, Shirley Schmidt. Their bond was strong and filled with care, companionship, and mutual respect. He was deeply devoted to his family and cared sincerely for those around him. He enjoyed simple pleasures — good food, good company, and time spent with the people he loved.
Greg is survived by his mother, Shirley Schmidt, of Kansas City, Missouri, along with extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Lee Schmidt, and his brother, Jay Schmidt.
A funeral service to honor Greg’s life will be held at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home at 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119 on December 15, 2025. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service following at 2:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend and share memories of Greg.
He will be remembered with love for his loyalty, kindness, and the many lives he touched over the years.
