Harold was born January 23, 1922 on a small farm in Axtell, Kansas. He graduated with the 9-person senior class at Axtell High School, was the first in his family to receive a college degree (Kansas State University) and earned a Masters in Business Administration from UMKC. He started his 38-year career with TWA as a baggage handler, moved into management positions and was the Director of the Hostess Training Academy when he retired.
Harold was devoted to his family, coaching little league baseball, attending swimming meets, participating in school activities and leading family picnics in the countryside. He and Maxine were members of North Cross United Methodist Church more than forty years, where he especially enjoyed singing in the choir. Harold was an avid woodworker and was especially skilled making intricately patterned tables and footstools, which he generously gave to family and friends.
Harold met Maxine Bever in Sunday School class and they were married for 64 years, until she preceded him in death in 2010. “Max” was the greatest blessing God ever gave him. Together they had four children-Richard (Cheryl), Lynn (Debbie), Don (Deana) and Janice (who passed away in 2012), eleven grandchildren (Jennifer, Laura, Kari, Sarah, Joy, Reid, Abbie, Cathy, Christy, Carrie and Connie) and eight great-grandchildren (Miles, Lucas, Sadie, Tessa, Corbin, Malia, Evan and Ellis).
A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 6 at 2 pm at the North Cross United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at the church at 1 pm. Masks are not required but are recommended. Family and friends are also welcome to participate in the funeral service remotely by going to https://www.youtube.com/northcrossumc or https://www.Facebook.com/NorthCrossUMC.
