Hazel was born Dec. 30, 1924, Diamond, MO, to Ernest and Lila(Johnson) Marshall. She lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. Hazel married the love of her life, J.E.(Budd) Halstead on June 15, 1941. They were blessed with 60 years of marriage and 5 children.
Hazel graduated from East High School in 1941. She worked as a homemaker, wedding caterer and a bookkeeper for National Bellas Hess. She was a member of the Heart of America Motor Coachmen Club and a member of Briarcliff Baptist church.
Hazel and Budd enjoyed the adventures and company of lifelong friends. They loved to play cards, camp, boat and RV travel as "snowbirds." Later in life, Hazel took several trips to Europe with her daughters.
Hazel, Budd and kids spent decades enjoying large family gatherings. Christmas Eve fun, taffy pulls and Easter egg hunts were treasured traditions. Her family was her greatest joy. She will be remembered for her ethics, intelligence, and quick wit. She was our matriarch to the end showing how to end her journey with love, grace, kindness and faith in her Savior.
