M. Inez (Spillman) Landis, a remarkable woman known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for family, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City, Missouri. She was 93 years old.
Inez was born on September 2, 1931, in Martinsville, Missouri, to William W. and Margaret (McNeese) Spillman. She graduated from Martinsville High School with the Class of 1949. After relocating to Kansas City, Missouri, Inez began her career at Sherwin Williams. Her dedication and excellence as an accountant earned her numerous company awards during her impressive 37-year tenure.
Inez’s greatest joy was her family. She married George E. Landis on June 14, 1958, and their union was blessed with one child. Her daughter fondly remembers Inez as a kind, gentle mother who was always her biggest cheerleader. Inez had a talent for crochet and delighted in creating the cutest baby booties. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and love, where she prepared delicious meals for her loved ones. Her specialties included pot roast with potatoes and homemade gravy, lasagna, pork tenderloins, and irresistible brownies.
Inez’s heart overflowed with generosity. She loved her family deeply and cherished her role as a sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her pets also held a special place in her heart, and their companionship brought her immense joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Spillman, her husband George E. Landis, as well as her brothers Merle, Verle, Truman, and Clyde Spillman, and sisters Ruth Brown, Verda Bower, and Betty Benfield. Inez is survived by her daughter, Becky Bridges (Michael) of Kansas City, Kansas; two grandchildren, Jenny Schoenrade (Matt) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Maggie Nolan (Andy Dykes) of Platte City, Missouri; and three great-grandchildren, Xander, Bexley, and Rowan Schoenrade. Her sister, Helen Meinershagen (Bob), remains a cherished part of her legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be sent to the NorthCare Hospice House (https://kchospice.org/donate/) or the American Heart Association (https://www.heart.org/). The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the NorthCare Hospice House for their compassionate care during Inez’s final days, as well as to the friends and neighbors who supported her in maintaining her independence.
