Jim was born on July 4th, 1931 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Carl and Lillian (Boyles) Hines. He attended Maur Hill-Mount Academy and graduated from Liberal High School. Jim married Joann Kapaun in 1952. Jim was enlisted in the Air Force from 1950-1954. After moving to Kansas City, Jim worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline for 35 years. The couple welcomed three children into their home and built a foundation of love, family, and friendship. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, and a loving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. After retirement, Jim and Joann spent years traveling and were able to visit 48 states and many European countries.
Jim was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and on the boards of St. Charles School and St. Pius High School. As a man who loved soccer, he was a founding member of the Heart of America Soccer Association. Jim was able to coach and mentor many young men throughout the years. Jim and Joann were active and dedicated members of St. Charles Catholic Church. Jim will most be remembered for his kindness, love of family, and individual heartfelt conversations.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Lillian, brother Thomas, twin sisters Barbara and Patty, and son John. Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years Joann, son Jeff and daughter Jana Brewer (Mike); grandchildren: Jennifer Agee (Darrell), Josephine and John Hines, and Lacey Brewer; great-grandchildren: Brent (Robin) and Alyssa Agee; great-great grandchildren: Bennett and Issabella Agee; special brother-in-law Flo Kapaun and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service 12:00pm Thursday White Chapel Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim's life.
