(written by Jim prior to his passing)
Jim Hogan died last week due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Clinton, Iowa in 1967 and from Iowa State University in 1972. Jim had a 44 year career in the meat business. He started with Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids, Iowa before transferring to their headquarters in Oklahoma City. From Oklahoma he moved to FDL Foods in Dubuque, Iowa where he spent what he called the best five years of his life. In 1989 he took a job with Farmland Foods and moved to Kansas City. He developed many lifelong friends through business and on the golf course.
The most important thing in Jim’s life however, was his family headed by his wife Theresa. Jim saw her at a high school dance in 1964. She was a freshman and Jim was a sophomore. Jim suffered from progressive MS which began to rear its head at about the age of 45. Early on in their physical struggles, Jim apologized to Theresa for what he was putting her through. She responded with,"Hey we're in this thing together - nuff said!" They had four kids: Amy Childers (Scott), Carina Draut, Hattie Cummings (Daniel), and Matt Hogan (Rudy) who brought a joyfulness that filled the house and continues still when we can get everyone together. With the six grandkids, Ellie and Katie Childers, Hannah and Callie Draut, and Teddy and Ellis Cummings, it can be the best kind of pandemonium.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Mary Hogan; sister, Sheila Mulcahy, and brother Mark Hogan. He is survived by sisters Anne Wareham and Maggie Hogan. There will be a celebration of life at a date to be determined later.
