Janice was born on April 7, 1935 in Quasqueton, IA to Lester and Gladys Hekel. She was the youngest of five children. Janice graduated from Quasqueton High School in 1952 with a class of only 11 students. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Cedar Rapids to work as a file clerk at National Oats (Three Minute Oats).
Janice met the love of her life, Orville Fruendt, at a dance hall in Cedar Rapids. Janice and Orville were married on September 18, 1954 in Quasqueton, and made their home in Fairfax, IA, until they moved to Kansas City, MO in 1977. They were happily married for 27 years, until the death of Orville in 1981.
Raising her four children was her proudest accomplishment. She stayed home when her children were young, and returned to work part-time as a temp for Kelly Girl Services once her kids went to school. After Orville’s death, she went back to work full-time and worked 15 years for International Paper (xpedx) as a customer service representative, retiring in 2000.
In her retirement, she enjoyed being part of a bowling league, playing cards and games with friends, and volunteering. She enjoyed traveling on several bus trips with other seniors. Janice was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for over 20 years, and most recently found her church home at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Kansas City.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, her parents, Lester and Gladys, two brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by her loving family which includes four children: Linda Bosky (John), Roger Fruendt (Linda), Brian Fruendt, and Sharon Ousley (Jeff). Janice was the proud grandmother of 7 grandchildren: Matt (Clarissa), Nikki (Patrick), Mark (Brittany), Jordan, Emily (Stephen), Hannah (Jake), Sam, and 2 step-grandchildren: Sunny and John. She also has 6 great grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Funeral Service at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1701 NE 96th Street, Kansas City, MO on Saturday, May 31 at 11:00 am. Family will receive guests with a Visitation beginning at 10:00 am until service time.
