

Jerry Lee Irby, age 87, of Kansas City, passed peacefully at home on April 5, 2023. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Walter "Jack" and Ruth Leone (Fisher) Irby. He graduated from Westport High. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army 59th Combat Engineers Division during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he became a member of Painter's Local 41, and a member of the Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School for teens.
On December 31, 1958, he married the love of his life Alma Irene Gentry of Northboro, Iowa. They were married for 64 years. They began in California but moved home to Kansas City, Missouri, to live their life together. Jerry spent a great deal of his time making sure ALL animals were given the best of care with a special love for cats.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruth Irby; stepmother, LaVonne Irby; sister-in-law, Jennie Lorene Gentry; brother-in-law, Robert Gentry; and sister-in-law, Frances Gentry.
Jerry is survived by his wife Alma Irene; his daughter, Kelly Lorene Sievert (Stephen) and his son Tracy Lee Irby; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Don Irby; sister-in-law, Tamra Gentry Murphy; five nieces; three nephews and other deeply loved family members and friends. Jerry will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of telling stories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wayside Waifs, Kansas City, Missouri.
The family would like to thank Crossroads Hospice for their care and dedication to Jerry along with the VA.
