Jerry was born on November 7, 1933, at the Sutton family farm near Glen Elder, KS to John and Hazel (Fulton) Sutton, he was the youngest of 6 children. He attended grade school and high school in Glen Elder, KS graduating in 1953. Jerry attended Fort Hays State University where he ran track and played football before graduating with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts in 1959.
Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and ran track for the U.S. Army while stationed in Germany.
Jerry and Mary Jolene (Jo) Miles married in August of 1957 and raised 4 children.
He worked as an Industrial Arts teacher and Cooperative Education teach for the North Kansas City School district from 1963 to 1995, teaching at: North Kansas City, Oak Park, and Winnetonka High Schools.
Jolene Sutton passed away in 1995 and Jerry married Elizabeth (Liz) Weekly in 1999.
Jerry had a passion for acquiring building trades skills; being very skilled at carpentry, plumbing, and most skills needed for building or repairing homes. During the summer, weekends and evenings he worked building, remodeling, and repairing homes; having built the family home and several others. Neighbors and friends knew him as knowledgeable and helpful when problems came up around the house.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father John; mother Hazel; brothers Ralph, Max, and Jim; sisters Doris and Dorothy; and wives Jolene and Liz. He is survived by his children: John, Charlie, Amy, and Hank; and grandchildren Alex and Kaiser.
