Joanne M. (Danner) Garner passed away Thursday morning February 4, 2016 due to complications from COPD in the wonderful care of Saint Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City Missouri. Joanne was a resident of The Gardens on Barry Road in Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her parents Earl Danner (Macon) and Lucille Maddy Moberly and her brother Lavon Danner of Kansas City. Joanne was married to George "Lynn" Garner for 36 years prior to his death in 1993 where they resided in St Joseph Missouri. Joanne is survived by her two sons Terry Garner (Tari) of Kansas City Missouri, and Dan Garner (Jennifer) of Edmond Oklahoma. Also surviving includes 3 grandchildren; Nicole Owen (Matt), Josh Garner (Malyssa) and Morgan Crick and 1 step grandchild; Taryn Boller (Jennifer). Joanne has 6 great grandchildren. Joanne had a large family network and was loved and involved with extended family members. She would want to acknowledge how important her family was in her life. Joanne was born and raised in and around Macon Missouri where she attended Macon High School and graduated in 1953. She was a multi-talented lady who enjoyed cooking, art work, music, sewing and needlework, gardening, and sports. She returned to school in the late 1980's and received her BA in Legal Sciences from Missouri Western State College. Joanne was soft spoken and loved to read and study the bible. She was a member of Woodson Chapel Christian Church and volunteered there until she moves to Kansas City Missouri after her husband’s death in 1993. Joanne leaves behind a family legacy of compassion for others in need, a delicate soft spoken word of advice, a listening ear for comforting others, a tenacity for doing what-ever it takes, and her witness for what it means to be a child of God. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends who knew and appreciated her great spirit. We rejoice in her journey to a new life without pain and sickness and in her union with those loved ones who passed before her. Joanne requested that no services be performed in lieu of a family celebration to be scheduled at a later date. For those who would like to make a contribution in her name, the family suggests gifts to Saint Luke's Hospice House / Kansas City Missouri (saintlukesgiving.org/hospice) or Susan G Komen for the Cure (komenkansascity.org).
