John Russell McArthur passed away July 21, 2025 at home in Kansas City, MO. He was born February 26, 1953 in Kansas City. He was married to Debra Lee (Roberts) McArthur for forty-nine years, eleven months. The two had lived in Kansas City North for 45 years.
John was a 1971 graduate of Van Horn High School and attended Southwest Missouri State University, where he majored in art. He worked as a commercial artist, creating t-shirt designs for Eagle Products in Kansas City. Since his retirement in 2016, he maintained communication and friendships with many of his former coworkers who meant so much to him.
John had many hobbies and interests, including model trains, comic books, Formula 1 racing, and collecting vintage toys. He spent many hours watering and tending to plants that provided a tropical feel to the backyard oasis that he and Debra enjoyed. John was an avid movie buff and was unbeatable at movie trivia games. He was a Star Trek fan from the start of the original series and could name the title of any episode within the first ten seconds. He had a similar enthusiasm for Star Wars and Marvel movies.
John affirmed his Christian belief through baptism at a young age. John and Debra have enjoyed the fellowship, learning, and friendship of the same bible study group for over twenty-five years, and we have shared joys, heartaches, and prayers with this group of friends who are so special to us.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Russell McArthur and Lucy Catherine (McQuitty) McArthur, and his sister Julie (McArthur) Clark. He is survived by his wife Debra (Roberts) McArthur, son Alan Russell McArthur (Lindsey), daughter April Lee McArthur (Kenton Wheeler), and his sister Joyce (McArthur) Richards.
A visitation for John will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO 64119. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home. A committal service will occur Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 12:00 PM at White Chapel Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119.
