John graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1971. He continued on to Maple Woods Community College, then to North West Missouri State University in Maryville, MO for a dual degree in Business and Economics. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in Economics from UMKC. John worked at AM Castle Metals for 39 years, retiring in 2015.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Leslie O’Brien; brothers, James (Jalene) O’Brien and Joseph (Linda) O’Brien; two daughters, Stefanie O’Brien-Hughes and Mackenzie (Travis) Cramsey; two granddaughters, Johannah and Samantha Hughes; four grandsons, Patrick Hughes, Liam Richardson, Sullivan Cramsey, and Oliver Cramsey; and great grandson, Emerson Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Kansas City Hospice.
Although no formal funeral or graveside services are planned, the family will host a traditional Irish Wake in John’s memory on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Side Pockets, 600 NW Englewood Rd, Kansas City, MO 64118 from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm.
