John George Ryan

He graduated from Lillis High School in 1953. A year later he joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego. He was a gunner’s mate on the battleship USS Henderson in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1958.

In John’s previous marriage, he had two children, Kelly and Johnny. Then John married Joyce Miller in April, 1970. They had two children, a daughter, Amanda in 1976 and a son, Matthew in 1979. John encouraged his children to participate in a number of sports while in school, such as basketball, volleyball, baseball, track and soccer. John was a dedicated member of The First Presbyterian Church of North Kansas City. He served on committees and was an elder. He was a passionate individual who loved golf, baseball, football, especially The Chiefs. He also loved dogs and his favorite cat, Gator.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Maryann and Cecilia.

John is survived by his wife, Joyce of Parkville, Mo and four children Kelly, Johnny, Matt of Kansas City, Mo, Amanda (John) of Gardner Kansas and two grandsons Zane at KU and Zayden of Gardner Kansas.

The Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, March 29th at 2:00pm with reception following at The First Presbyterian Church of North Kansas City, 23rd and Fayetteville in NKC.
