Josef "Joe" Shaffer, 71, died peacefully on Sunday January 12th, 2020 at 9:00 pm. Josef was born on December 11th, 1948 in St. Joseph, Michigan to Mary and Billy Shaffer. He graduated from Bridgman High School in 1966, served four years in the Navy and continued to complete a seven year apprenticeship to become a Journeyman Pattern Maker. Josef married Jean in 1980 after three weeks of acquaintance. Upon moving to Portland, OR Josef began working for Portland Pattern as a Journeyman Pattern Maker. Over the next 40 years, the couple welcomed four children. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, patient and hard working father who encouraged them to love one another. Josef was accomplished at carpentry and could often be found building new things and fixing what was or was not broken. He was a generous and faithful individual who loved his family and who was passionate about God.
Josef is preceded in death by his parents Billy and Mary and children Rachel, Megan, Matthew and Justin.
Josef is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jean, and their children Jonathan, Andrew, Katherine, Charlotte and Josef (Joey).

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 16th, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone, MO.
