Joyce Anne Herod, resident of Kansas City, MO passed away December 8, 2020 at St Luke’s Northland Hospital in Kansas City at the age of 82. Her celebration of life will be Tuesday, December 15 visitation starting at 10 am, funeral service starting at 11 am at Linden Baptist Church in Gladstone, MO. Joyce was born March 22, 1938 in Nevada, MO to Helen and George W. Niemeyer. Joyce grew up in Nevada, Osawatomie, KS and North Little Rock, AR. She graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1956. In 1960 she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University Of Arkansas Medical Center School Of Nursing with a BS in Nursing. She married Jerry Paul Herod on July 18, 1958. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse before staying home to raise three children. She was devoted to raising their 3 children: one son (David) and two daughters (Karen and Paula). The Herod family moved to Kansas City in 1966. The love she had for Jesus was fostered in each of her children; her faith was lived out by serving others. She participated in volunteer activities with the Clay County Health Department. She was Cub Scout Den Mother for Troop 272 and a leader in Brownie/Girl Scouts. She was an active member of Linden Baptist Church and was involved in choir, teaching children’s Sunday school, and landscaping the church grounds with Jerry. The Herod’s moved to their dream home in Smithville, MO in 1988. Joyce had a love for animals, for nature, for sewing and for gardening. She loved her family with all of her heart, and especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren. She had a heart for dogs and made homes for many over the years.
She is preceded in death by her parents Helen and George W. Niemeyer, sister Martha Irene Niemeyer, and husband Jerry.
She is survived by her brother Gary Niemeyer (Deloris); 3 children: David Herod (Kasia), Karen Klett (Terrill), and Paula Rich (Dennis); her 6 grandchildren: Corbin and Brody Klett; Kaelyn, Sydney, Joshua, and Luke Rich; and many friends.
Joyce is in the presence of our Lord now and feeling no pain and experiencing her first days in eternal life with our Lord.
