Kyong was the true embodiment of courage and will always be remembered for her tenacity and grit.
Kyong Nam Yi was born in a rural town in South Korea in December of 1948. She was one of six children born to her father Hyon Yi and mother Bun Ok Yi. She is survived by four of her siblings, their children, and grandchildren, who reside in South Korea.
She immigrated to the US in 1968. In this new environment, having to learn a new language and customs, she not only survived, but thrived. She was a dedicated mother and wife. Nothing was more important to her than her family.
Our mom was a talented chef who would bring family and friends together for amazing Korean meals. She was an avid gardener and grew all her own food each summer to support her kimchi habit. She grew enough Korean red pepper, garlic and chives to last through the next growing season. She was passionate and fiercely protective of her fruit and chestnut trees. Her life seemed to revolve around what was in season and ready to be harvested. Her peonies, rose bushes, magnolia trees, poppies and hollyhocks brought her tremendous joy, and she had a knack for finding four leaf clovers without even trying.
Kyong is survived by her husband Raymond, four children: Janice, Jennifer, Chris and Catherine, two grandchildren: Victoria and Gonzalo and great grandchild: Adam.
She was truly an amazing woman and will be greatly missed. She did not realize how many lives she touched nor how loved she was by so many.
Kyong will be buried on Thursday, March 23, 2023, in a private ceremony with immediate family at Newcomer’s White Chapel.
