Mr. Larry Dean Mundorff, 91, of Kearney, MO, died peacefully surrounded by family on September 26, 2025. Larry was born on January 12, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri to Milburn Mundorff Sr and Cora “Melva” (Bailey) Mundorff as the middle of 5 siblings (Joyce, Milburn Jr, Carol, and Beverly). Growing up, he enjoyed playing baseball and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1952 and proudly enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard, Larry was stationed at Loran Station at Cape Atholl on the icy shores of Greenland.
Upon completion of his USCG duties, Larry was honorably discharged and began work as a mechanic at Trans World Airlines, where he worked until his retirement in 1996. Working for TWA allowed him to travel all over the world, which he did frequently with his wife, daughters, and friends. After retirement, he found much enjoyment in working for Worlds of Fun as a train conductor and continued to serve as a TWA Ambassador.
Larry was united in marriage on April 11, 1959 to his beloved wife, Sandra (Smith) Mundorff. They were married for 66 years and had two daughters, Peggy and Cheryl. He enjoyed a large variety of hobbies and pursuits. He was an active member of the Alpha Lodge in North Kansas City of the Freemasons for over 50 years, an organization that brought him much pride. He rose through the ranks of the Freemasons to serve as a Grand Master. Sonnie and Larry served as members of the Swangers square dancing club for many years. He enjoyed creating fabulous works of art from wood (in particular, his wooden clocks), playing cards with his friends, watching the Kansas City Royals, and camping, boating, and water-skiing. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren, including watching their numerous sporting events and dance recitals, and patiently teaching them how to use a scroll saw or play his favorite card games. Most recently, he loved to watch his much adored great-granddaughters play with cars and blocks on his living room floor.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Milburn Sr and Cora “Melva” Mundorff, and his siblings, Milburn Jr Mundorff and Carol White.
Larry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sandra; daughters Peggy (Matt) Doolan and Cheryl Rose; beloved grandchildren Molly (Sam) Wallach, Zachary (Susana) Doolan, Nicholas Doolan, Mason Rose, and Amanda Rose; great-granddaughters Caroline and Audrey Wallach; sisters Joyce (Bill) McDevitt and Beverly (Chuck) Davis, and brother-in-law Ralph White; and many more nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to McMurry United Methodist Church in Claycomo, Missouri.
The family would like to thank Liberty Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
A visitation will be held on October 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, at White Chapel Funeral Home, located at 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119.
