Leo Henry Kimber, 79, passed away at peace on January 23rd, 2026 in the company of his family.

Leo was born on September 8th, 1946 in Great Bend, Kansas to Howard and Genevie (Yahne) Kimber and was the youngest of six children. After graduating from high school, Leo met and married Kathleen Battershell of Lyons, Kansas, to whom he would be married for the rest of his life. From 1964 to 1974 Leo served in the United States Marine Corp, eventually attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

Following his time with the Marine Corp, Leo embarked upon a career with the United States Postal Service where he would work for 25 years. Upon retirement, he and his wife became members of the community of Gladstone, Missouri.

A cheerful man with a larger-than-life sense of humor, Leo loved sharing jokes with friends and family, studying military history, and in his later years, spending time with his beloved dog, Auntie Em.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers, Norman, Donald, and Ray Kimber; as well as his sister, Shirley Bobeck. He is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 59 years; their son Tyree Kimber, and daughter-in-law Angie Froese of Raytown, Missouri; his brother Russell Kimber of Great Bend, Kansas; his sisters-in-law Mrs. Donald (Jean) Kimber Great Bend, Kansas, and Mrs. Norman (Jean) Kimber of Atlanta, Georgia; as well as numerous nieces and one nephew.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff of the eighth and ninth floors of the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Services and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
