Lionel was the beloved husband of Barabara Shoemaker for 35 years. He was the loving father of Jason Shoemaker and Jeff Gilbert. Lionel was the proud grandfather of Alex and Ryan Gilbert. He was the brother of Leon, Larry, George, Danny, and Mary. Lionel is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lionel was a distinguished veteran of the Navy and proud of his service. He was also a passionate KU basketball fan.
