Lois Elaine Norman, age 97, of Kansas City, Missouri, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. Lois was born February 17, 1924 in Racine, Wisconsin to Walter and Myrtle Lesneski. She graduated from Mount Mercy School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1944 and immediately began her nursing career. Lois married the love of her life upon his return from the European Theater of Operations, World War II, on May 15, 1946. The couple started their family of four children as Mr. Norman completed his engineering degree at what was then called the University of Missouri at Rolla. Her children remember her as a kind, yet 'no monkey business' kind of mother who loved them but perhaps did not like them at times. Lois practiced nursing on and off for years while raising her children choosing to devote the majority of her time to her family as a dedicated wife and mother.
Over the years, Lois enjoyed shopping, making ceramic pieces and oil painting among other arts and crafts, but mostly she gained joy from working in and creating a manicured yard. She loved baking during the Christmas season and sharing pumpkin bread with the neighbors. In much later years she spent hours reading romance novels, watching old TV westerns, all while continuing yardwork until age 96. She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church having joined this Parish in 1961.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband Amos Norman; daughter, Lynn Ann Norman; father Walter Lesneski; mother Myrtle Lesneski; stepmother Eva Lesneski; and her beloved friend and cousin, Dorothy Taylor.
Lois is survived by her sons, Robert Norman, Kansas City; Richard Norman (Robin), Kansas City; and daughter, Diana Levy (Lawrence), Richardson, Texas. Also surviving Lois are her grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Jon Norman (Jennifer), Karesa Smith (Oren), Andrea Norman, Richard Norman, Jr. (Holly), Stasha Berry, Sean Norman, Shane Norman (Taylor), Christina Johnson, Natalie Hamm (Stephen), Matthew Levy (Amy), Michael Levy (Shelly) and many great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Amos Norman Family Scholarship Fund at the University of Missouri-Science and Technology, Rolla, Missouri or, the NorthCare Hospice House at North Kansas City Hospital, North Kansas City, Missouri.
A private graveside service will be held on Monday, November 22 at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery.
