Lorene Ruth Murphy

Lorene Ruth Hamblen Murphy, 88, went to be with her Lord on Friday, September 11, 2015. Lorene was a life-long resident of Clay County Missouri with the exception of her brief residence in Johnson County Kansas. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 13th from 5-7 pm at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons White Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, September 14th at 1:00 pm at the chapel. Lorene was born November 25, 1926 to the late John Alvin and Anna Elizabeth Homer Hamblen in North Kansas City, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Donald Leslie Murphy; her sisters, Roseanna and Roberta Hamblen; her brother, John Alvin Hamblen Jr. and her great grandson James Michael Reyes “Jamie”. Lorene was a devout Christian woman with great wisdom and faith who served in many capacities in her church. Lorene was very active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She served two terms as the President of the State WMU of the Missouri Baptist Convention. Family was very important to Lorene; she commented on many occasions how blessed she and all the rest of us are to have such a close family who enjoy being together. She seemed her happiest when she was putting together a big holiday meal for the family. In a crowd, even with her family, she was quiet but she loved those moments and would sit quietly and smile as the commotion unfolded. Lorene is survived by her son, John (Sherry) Murphy of Kansas City, MO; her daughter, Dianna (Steve) Link of Lenexa, KS; her four grandchildren; Lesley (Steve) Boulton of Bennington, NE; Audrey (Mikey) Reyes of King William, VA; David (Jevette) Link of Overland Park, KS and Christy (Karl) Seele of Belvue, KS. Lorene is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Shiloh, Lexington, and David Link, Elijah and Emma Seele, Amber and Alexandra Boulton and Regan Reyes as well as Don’s soul surviving sibling, Truman (Pat) Murphy of Kansas City, MO and Barbara Murphy of Kansas City, MO, wife of the late Howard Murphy.
